A few photos from yesterday evening: whale breach, sunset and Judy coming back from a walk on the beach.
This morning we went on a windy, choppy, fantastic whale watch! Really, Karen and I both enjoy a boat ride when the waves are high and crashing on deck, though most people do not 🙂 We saw a lot of male humpbacks battling for you-know-what—spectacular behaviors to watch. When I thought it couldn’t get better our naturalist found a large pod of Hawaiian spinner dolphins and they surrounded our boat.
After lunch we walked to a park in Lahaina where the Mo’olele canoe is being built (15 years in the making!). It’s scheduled to be launched this May and will be a living classroom to teach kids and adults traditional Polynesian wayfinding and voyaging skills. It is one beautiful boat.
The canoe is impressive! Grandpa Erickson would have loved seeing all the knot work. I like that kind of education they’re planning.
The whale mating activity is impressive too-Heidi and I have watched so many documentaries on whales–just think of all that power and strength.
Judy looks like she’s having a good time and the flowers are always beautiful!
