Yesterday morning Karen and I boarded a Stillwater paddle boat to tour the construction of the new St. Croix Crossing Bridge. I loved it! Being on a boat with my sweetheart on a beautiful day and learning about bridge construction was Christmas in May. The cost was $10 for the hour and half tour, narrated by Jon Chiglo, the project engineer for the MN Department of Transportation. Jon is well-known here, as the project manager for rebuilding the collapsed 35W bridge in Minneapolis.
Planning for this bridge first began in the 1950’s! It spans Minnesota and Wisconsin so it’s coordinated with the Department of Transportation in both states.
These tours will be offered several times throughout the summer so I’ll take at least one more to see the progress. If you’re interested in these tours click on this link: http://www.stillwaterriverboats.com/Riverboat%20Bridge%20Tours%20-%20Summer%20Dates.pdf
