Aloha!
The Maui Blog begins! I hope it brings you some of the grace, peace and beauty of the island.
We had a delicious send-off with our annual Bon Voyage dinner prepared by Zanna, Eric and sous chefs H&G. Hand drawn banners decorated the dining room and the kids each created menus with several items to choose from under each course. However. Only one item was mysteriously available 🙂 Karen still wants to know what “pirate booty” would have been.
We arrived on February 7th, JoAnn on the 8th, and Richard on the 9th.
JoAnn, Karen and I had lunch at Chef Sheldon’s new restaurant, Tin Roof in Kahalui (we all had the delicious Mochiko Chicken). Karen caught the note written on the fridge that seems very much in the spirit of Sheldon. And then next door we visited our friend Rachel in her U’i gallery.
Friday we all did our favorite hike along the Kapalua Coastal Trail. It’s a rugged, beautiful landscape, right along the ocean so whale watching is great. A stone labyrinthe is at the end. Lunch was at Maui Brewing in Lahaina which was very good, but Karen says the tator tots were the very, very best and if you eat here you have to try them: TOTS DYNAMITE: potato tots, beer cheese sauce, diced jalapeño, green onion, kimchi aioli, caramelized onion and garlic crema
