David and I are home now from our short getaway to Grand Marais, but I’m still thinking about our favorite beautiful, quirky, little town on the Lake. Here’s a couple Fun Facts plus a few of my favorite things.
- Grand Marais has the lowest point in Minnesota, i.e., Lake Superior (at 600 feet above sea level) and the highest point, Eagle Mountain (2,301). They’re 15 miles apart.
- And Grand Marais has five(!) growing zones: 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, and 4a.

World’s Best Donuts–always the first stop (if they haven’t run out)!

Angry Trout flower box. Best restaurant setting and best fish in town.

The leaning tower of Grand Marais (the historical society is rehabbing it).

Outside the Johnson gallery, part of a fiber exhibit.

This is what I mean by quirky. Hello?!

The fishing boat goes out at 3:00 a.m. every day to bring fresh fish to the restaurants.

Wildflowers galore!

I think this is a mobile tourist info shed.

Even closing time can bring a smile.

We didn’t take advantage of this but hopefully next time I can make some burgers.
Your first post is nicely done. I hope to see much more.
