Didn’t know much about the ubiquitous coconut palm trees here in Hawaii, but have learned there are dozens of species, all but one of which were brought by humans. The coconut is one of the largest seeds, and even after floating in the ocean for months, it can sprout after making landfall.
The tree is considered one of the most useful in the world: the fruit has water and milk that can be drunk and flesh that can be eaten; the oil can be used in cooking, cosmetics, and for lamp fuel; the leaves can be used for weaving and thatching; the husks can be used for food bowls; and the trunk for building.
